Yotme App Puts the “Social” Back Into Social Media

Yotme, the first and only people-centric events app, today announced its public availability and official launch in New York City. This touchdown comes after months of beta testing in Boston, MA and Charleston, SC, where Yotme gained public notoriety from local socialites, while gathering valuable product feedback from more than 10,000 users and event attendees. yotme logo

The new Yotme app sets out to be the social network for both events and people; giving users a new, better social networking option by combining intriguing and relevant events with the opportunity to interact with new and interesting people.

The app works by allowing any users — from individuals to small businesses to big-budget corporate brands — to attend or become hosts of private events. User profile features are similar to top-tier dating apps in that they include photos, bios, followers, and the concept of users “vouching” for each other; offering transparency and credibility to new and veteran users alike. As a host, users can publish an event or experience to the Yotme marketplace, where potential guests can send a “join” request. Hosts can then approve guest requests, and can search to invite additional guests by profile and location.

While in beta, the app supported more than 350 events ranging from private dinner soirees, to corporate events, to big-budget branded parties. Upon launch, new users can expect to find active events in Boston, Charleston, and the latest market, New York City. They will also encounter a fully rebuilt user interface. Yotme’s overarching goal is to give users access to a myriad of meaningful experience through the swipe of a screen. “Social media created huge innovations in global communication, but they didn’t solve for actual socialization,” said Barry Hinckley, Founder and CEO of Yotme. “At best, social media is used to keep tabs on people who are either already in our lives, or cling to those who aren’t. Yotme is different. We are here to create real-time, meaningful, intellectual, and emotional connections through actual shared experiences.”

With event opportunities across New York City, Yotme will look to bring a fresh new way for visitors and locals to connect with one another. Today, many exciting opportunities to connect at events targeting Manhattan neighborhoods are already live in the app. Following its NYC launch, Yotme has imminent plans to expand to additional U.S. markets throughout 2017.

Yotme is based in Boston and founded by Barry Hinckley. The company has raised angel funding from investors, including The Accomplice/BOSS syndicate. Hinckley also co-founded Bullhorn, the leading SaaS based CRM for the recruiting and staffing industry.
