WhatsApp Rolls Out New Emojis for More than 1.2 Billion Users

This morning WhatsApp rolled out a new range of emoji for its more than 1.2 billion users, shunning those created by Apple, Google and Samsung.

The new icons, visible for the first time in a beta version of its Android app, are nearly identical to those created by Apple, which WhatsApp had previously used not only in its iOS app, but also in its Android and Windows versions. It’s not clear what prompted the update, but experts say it’s likely the app is following others including Facebook and Twitter in attempting to extricate itself from relying on third-parties for emoji design.

Recently the CEO of ScribbleChat, Eloise Bune said about the release:

“75% of consumers recently cited they feel their emotions are unmet by current chat experiences and offerings. Millennials are the kings and queens of “one size does not fit all” content— they are craving personalized and customizable. Social media innovators like WhatsApp should be doubling down on investments in NEW social media features and emoji’s— not pulling back— to keep their audience excited.”

So tell us, what do you think of the new emojis?
